The health and wellbeing sector encompasses the provision of health and medical services, community services, manufacture of medical devices, health IT, clinical trials as well as other human wellbeing and recreation functions. The sector can be broken down by direct health care services and wellness industries looking to promote general improved and health and happiness.

Over the past decade, the health and wellbeing sector has grown dramatically with advancements in technology, innovation, high professional skills, research and health infrastructure. The industry is worth over $500 billion in the United States with Australia following suit with significant growth. The healthcare and social assistance sector contributed $514 million to the Penrith economy in 2008-09 and is one of the largest employers in Penrith with approximately 7,000. This represents an almost 50% increase from 1996 and is expected to double by 2031.

The transport and logistics industry encompasses the transport, storage (warehousing) and distribution of freight by road, rail, water and air. The transport and logistics sector is one of the fastest growing industries in Australia and contributes approximately $573 million to the Penrith economy (2008-09) supporting approximately 4,100 employees.
